Habitat Sarasota’s Global Mission

Our Global Mission

You may have seen the insert in today's Herald Tribune inviting you to be a part of Habitat for Humanity International's vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. At Habitat Sarasota, we want to give you the opportunity to make your donation to your local Habitat affiliate.

Habitat for Humanity Sarasota builds safe, decent and affordable houses in our local community, and we contribute to decent shelter around the world. As a part of guatemalaHabitat for Humanity International's greater efforts to create strength, stability, self-reliance and shelter everywhere, each affiliate is asked to tithe to Habitat International to empower families around the world to live a better life.

Habitat is active in nearly 70 countries and has helped more than 6.8 million people to improve their living conditions. In 1979, Habitat for Humanity founder, Millard Fuller, received a tithe donation of $200 at a home dedication ceremony. That gift launched a new affiliate in Guatemala and the tithe program began.

Habitat for Humanity International recently recognized us for helping nearly 400 families in 10 countries. A $3,000 gift from the Gomez-Palacio family boosted Habitat Sarasota's lifetime tithe to more than $1 million! We are dedicated to the global mission to build a world where everyone deserves a decent place to live. At the request of Enrique and his family, this tithe will be going back to where the tithe program began, Guatemala.

Everyone Deserves a Decent Place to Live

All parents want the same things for their children: to keep them safe, see that they're healthy and ensure they receive a good education. But for some families, it's a daily struggle.

You see, many families often live in homes that are falling apart, riddled with maintenance problems that impact their children's health. A leaky roof allows moisture and mold to build up, leading to breathing problems that can turn into asthma.

Imagine how easy it is to help change those situations - to give families a strong foundation, literally. With your support today, Habitat can continue our vital work, including installing roofs and pouring cement floors to prevent the spread of disease.

I invite you to join us in our quest to eliminate poverty housing by giving to Habitat Sarasota's 2016 Annual Global Fund Drive.
