#GivingChallenge2016

Thank You for Building Hope for Working Families

In Sarasota, there is a huge need for affordable housing. Habitat for Humanity has a proven model for affordable housing, we build houses for working families in need with volunteer labor, in-kind donations, monetary gifts and grants from the community. We finance the homes at cost with zero interest to our partner families. Partner families are qualified based on need, ability to partner and ability to make a zero percent mortgage payment upon home completion. They are vested in the program by providing $1,600 of their own money toward their home and a minimum of 300 sweat equity hours. They are also required to attend a series of homeownership classes to learn about budgeting, maintenance, cooking healthy meals, citizenship, and how to be a successful homeowner.

The 2016 Giving Challenge is presented by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County with giving strengthened by The Patterson Foundation, as well as support from Manatee Community Foundation, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, William G. and Marie Selby Foundation, and the Herald-Tribune Media Group.
