Team Depot Lends Support to Habitat Sarasota VETERAN BUILD
May 28, 2014 – Sarasota, FL – The Home Depot Foundation recently awarded Habitat for Humanity Sarasota with a grant of $9,000. The funds will used to underwrite the cost of cabinet installation, flooring, landscaping and painting at the Habitat Sarasota VETERAN BUILD house under construction at 2839 West Rainbow Circle in Sarasota.
The VETERAN BUILD house is designated for a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces. This specific home is being built for Army Sargeant (Ret.) Tia McCants and family. Ms. McCants is a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and is employed in Sarasota. Upon leaving the U.S. Army, and returning home, Ms. McCants found local rents prohibitively expensive in Sarasota. As a result, she commutes from Brandon each day to her job in Sarasota.
On Saturday, May 31, 2014, Team Depot, The Home Depot's associate-led volunteer force, will landscape the grounds of the VETERAN BUILD house. The extensive project includes laying sod and planting shrubbery. They will work at the house from 7:30 a.m. to noon that day to ready the lot in anticipation of Ms. McCants’ move in later this summer.
“We are pleased to announce this partnership with Team Depot,” said Renee Snyder, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Sarasota. “A special thank you goes to The Home Depot for not only a generous financial contribution, but for also providing hands-on volunteers for the VETERAN BUILD.”
