Shots, stabbings and a triple homicide on their street strengthened Jessica's resolve to find a safer environment for her three children. "I didn't want them growing up there," Jessica says, "but we didn't have enough established credit to get a traditional bank mortgage." It wasn't for a lack of effort. For years she has maintained a full-time job while taking night classes for her LPN degree and now she's working toward her RN. Jessica says, "It's the opportunity of a lifetime to have a home of our own in a safe neighborhood. We can't wait to move in!"
This new home construction was made possible with funding through the Community Contribution Tax Credit Program (CCTCP) and a partnership with FCCI Insurance Group.
Florida's CCTCP offers tax incentives for corporations that seek to support affordable home building. This home was Habitat Sarasota's second CCTCP partnership with FCCI Insurance Group to construct a new home for a working family. In additional to a financial contribution, FCCI employees and family members volunteered on the home for a minimum of 200 hours.
The kitchen was funded by a grant from the Eluned & Edward Russell Charitable Foundation.
