On April 26, Habitat Sarasota announced the kickoff of our capital campaign: Lives Transformed. The Campaign for Hammock Place.
The kickoff for The Campaign for Hammock Place took place at the Northern Trust, who sponsored and hosted the event. The room was at capacity with more than 60 of Habitat Sarasota’s top supporters and board members. Habitat Sarasota detailed plans for the three-year initiative to build 40 homes with a $7 million goal. The breakfast celebrated the $3 million already committed through a partnership with the Kolter Group and the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.
The program included several noted leaders within the community including Roxie Jerde, President and CEO, Community Foundation of Sarasota County; Phil Delaney, President, Northern Trust; John Peshkin, Principal, Vanguard Land; Jim Harvey, President, Kolter Land Partners; Dave Langhout, Vice President, Kolter Homes and Bonnie Dezii, Vice President of Claims, FCCI Insurance Group.
“Three years ago, Habitat started a plan to increase the impact of the organization in the community,” said Renee Snyder, President and CEO, Habitat Sarasota. “I am proud to announce we are building a neighborhood. A neighborhood that will transform the lives of 40 families and more than 100 children right here in Sarasota.”
Located in Sarasota County on the north side of 17th Street, just east of Beneva, Hammock Place is designed to look like a market rate community. The neighborhood features 3- and 4-bedroom homes that include a 2-car garage. It will be deed restricted, include lawn maintenance and have a gated entry. Habitat Sarasota is using cutting-edge construction methods that exceed green building standards. Through the support of volunteers and community partners, the homes will be sold with a zero percent interest mortgage to qualified candidates.
The impact to Sarasota will be profound.

Site development has begun and the infrastructure of the roads will begin Summer 2018. New home construction will start Fall 2018.
“It takes community and corporate partnerships paired with individual giving to make The Campaign for Hammock Place a success,” says Snyder. “You have the opportunity to transform the lives of 1 child, 1 mother, or 1 father who will live in Hammock Place. It starts with you.”
