Lives Transformed: The Campaign for Hammock Place

Every parent wants a better future for their children

Hammock Place campaign video shares powerful story of one Habitat Sarasota family

Last month, Habitat Sarasota launched our Lives Transformed, The Campaign for Hammock Place in front of a packed room of supporters at The Northern Trust. The highlight of that kickoff was the campaign video.

The video features one of the more than 250 families that have been helped by Habitat Sarasota since we first began our work back in 1985.

We reconnected with Joyce and Ricky earlier this year when they came in to make their final mortgage payment on their home. They sat down with us and shared their very personal story of how becoming Habitat homeowners changed their lives and the lives of their children. Joyce grew up in what she describes as the “projects.” By moving into their Habitat home, she was able to shield her children from the negative influences that she was exposed to as a young girl. Because of an affordable rent, Ricky did not have to work two or three jobs to support his family. He and his wife were able to spend quality time with their children, building a strong family bond that instilled the importance of an education. All three of their children graduated from college. Their oldest daughter is now in medical school and plans to do her residency at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Their story drives at the heart of what The Campaign for Hammock Place is all about. Hammock Place will provide 100+ children with improved living conditions and a better opportunity for education. It’s a neighborhood where 40 families will create lifetime memories.

Share the campaign video with your family and friends today and urge them to give a gift at hammockplace.org.

Together, we build.
