Jahnisha is a proud first-time homebuyer because of Habitat Sarasota. She is committed to her work at the Childcare Center. She cares for the children of hospital staff, doctors and nurses for the past three years. Vital work that is much needed and appreciated by the hospital staff, especially during a pandemic. Jahnishia is blessed to bring her daughter to work. She loves working for the hospital and is attending classes with hope to one day work in the Administration Department. Reflecting on her job, Jahnisha smiles from ear to hear. She says, “I just love it.”
Burdened with a high monthly rent payment for a small, two-bedroom apartment in Bradenton and a 30-minute commute, even longer during season, Jahnisha was struggling. She was struggling financially and losing precious quality time commuting that she could be spending with her daughter. Thanks to Habitat Sarasota, she is now blessed with a permanent home with an affordable mortgage and lives much closer to work.
Strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter
Jahnisha is the sole head of household and is now able to raise her young daughter, Oshyn in a freshly renovated 3BR/2BA home with a secure backyard. Her mortgage payment which includes property taxes and homeowner’s insurance is $150 less a month than her previous rent payment. When she saw her home for the first time, her mask may have covered her smile, but the joy radiated from her eyes.
“We are both so appreciative and happy in our new home we are so grateful for all of you at Habit for Humanity Sarasota. Thanks again,” says Jahnisha.
Habitat Sarasota received grants for the renovations on her home from Wells Fargo, Bank of America Charitable Foundation, David B. Lindsay Foundation, and Peace River Electric Cooperative Inc.
Downpayment assistance was made possible by the Office of Housing & Community Development and the Edward K. Roberts Fund at the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.
Thank you to our volunteers and construction team, what a transformation! This house is beautiful.
